It all started on a wind swept prairie in Oklahoma. In the late 1940's a man by the name of Ed Malzahn had a vision. He saw a need for a service line trencher. Ed wanted to build something for the local plumber in Perry, Oklahoma to install water lines from the main line to the house. Working from his father's machine shop, known to locals as Charlie's Machine Shop, that vision, through hard work and innovation, was the beginning of a new way to dig ditches. With Ed's new trenching machine, a job that was once a back breaking task became much easier and a new product was born.......the Ditch Witch trencher! Today, Ditch Witch is the leading brand of underground utility construction equipment.....worldwide! Ed's vision and innovation lives on in that same little town where it all began, Perry, Oklahoma. Charlie's Machine Shop became known as The Charles Machine Works, manufacturer of Ditch Witch produts and the worldwide headquarters of Ditch Witch.

The Charles Machine Works and Ditch Witch Mid-South
In February, 1967, Carrol Webb moved from Oklahoma to Tennessee to open the first Ditch Witch dealership in the Mid-South area. It was known as Ditch Witch of Memphis. In 1978 Webb sold the dealership to Tommy Habben, also a native Oklahoman, who operated the business until January 1986 when the present owners, Matt Sights and his wife, Bettye along with a business partner purchased the dealership which became known as Ditch Witch Mid-South. A few years later, the Sights bought their partner's share of the business.
Malzahn and his first Trencher
The Sights', both native Memphians, wanted to build long lasting relationships with their customers by offering high quality products backed by superior customer service. With the help of a dedicated, well trained staff, unsurpassed factory support and loyal customers, they have succeeded. Serving West Tennessee, North Mississippi and Eastern Arkansas, Ditch Witch Mid-South has earned
the reputation of being a leader in the industry. In 2003, to better serve their customers, a new Parts and Service facility was opened. Renovation of the Sales and Administrative offices is planned for the near future.

Hard work and innovation......that is what has made Ditch Witch the leader in the underground construction industry. Ditch Witch Mid-South is proud to be a part of that legacy.
